Gender Ultrasound Scan 16-33 weeks

During the 20-week Anomaly scan, many NHS hospitals will offer to tell you the gender of your baby. The NHS Sonographer may be unable to see the baby if it is not in a good position during your routine hospital pregnancy scan. If the sonographer was unable to determine the gender of your baby during your 20-week anomaly scan, you will not be offered another opportunity under NHS care.

  • How is gender scan performed?

A gender scan is usually performed through transabdominal ultrasound, but sometimes a transvaginal ultrasound may be required for a more accurate view of the fetal genitalia. Regardless of the approach used, the primary purpose of the scan is to monitor the health and development of the fetus and identify any potential complications. While the gender scan is optional, it can provide parents with valuable information about their pregnancy and help them prepare for the arrival of their baby.

  • What are the preparations for a gender Scan?

There are no specific preparations required for a gender scan, but staying hydrated, wearing comfortable clothing, and attending the appointment with a full bladder can help to ensure the best possible results. If you have any concerns or questions about the procedure, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider for guidance and reassurance.
