What are the preparations for Pelvic Scan?
A full bladder is essential for transabdominal scan. If you choose a transvaginal scan (internal scan), no preparation or full bladder is required. If you are allergic to latex or have any concerns about transvaginal ultrasound, please let us know. In a transabdominal scan, your clinician applies a cool, clear gel to your lower abdomen and moves a wand-like transducer over the area, which emits sound waves into the body and if you feel any discomfort during the painless examination, you should inform the clinician.
When you undergo a transvaginal scan, you will lie on your back with your knees bent. A small ultrasound probe, similar in size to a tampon, will be inserted into your vagina after lubrication. The initial cold sensation of the gel will soon dissipate and the test should not cause any pain. If you experience any discomfort, let the clinician know.
